OCI Card Updation – Passport & Personal Particulars

Note

  • It is mandatory to carry the passport mentioned on your OCI Card while traveling to India.
  • If your original OCI was issued outside the jurisdiction of CGI Seattle, you may submit an application under “Updation of Personal Particulars” through OCI Miscellaneous Services to update your passport details through CGI Seattle.

The requirement for mandatory reissuance of an OCI Card solely due to issuance of a new passport has been discontinued.

OCI Cardholders are, however, required to keep their passport particulars and personal particulars updated on the OCI Portal.

Applicants are advised to ensure that the email address registered on the OCI Portal is current before downloading the e-OCI.  Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Email Address Updation.

1. Updation of Passport Particulars

A. If Updated Within Three Months of Passport Issuance

OCI Cardholders should update their latest passport particulars on the OCI Portal within three months of issuance of the new passport.

The process is:

  • Completely online.
  • Free of cost.
  • Does not require submission of physical documents.
  • Does not require a visit or submission to VFS Global.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the OCI Portal and select OCI Miscellaneous Services.
  2. Choose the option for Updation of Passport Particulars.
  3. Complete and submit the online application.
  4. Upload:
    • Copy of the new passport.
    • Recent photograph taken within the last 30 days.

Important: Applications for updation of passport particulars can only be submitted to the Indian Mission/Post that issued your latest OCI Card.

For example, if your latest OCI Card was issued by the Consulate General of India, San Francisco, the regular online passport particulars updation application must be submitted to CGI San Francisco.

Alternatively, applicants whose original OCI application was submitted outside CGI Seattle may apply through CGI Seattle by selecting “Updation of Personal Particulars” under OCI Miscellaneous Services and following the VFS Global submission process described in Section 2 below.

B. If Updated After Three Months of Passport Issuance

If passport particulars are not updated within three months of issuance of the new passport, the applicant is required to pay the applicable fee through VFS Global.

Procedure

  1. Complete the online application under OCI Miscellaneous Services on the OCI Portal.
  2. Submit the online application.
  3. Once the application is received at the Consulate, the applicant will be informed regarding payment.
  4. Make the applicable payment through VFS Global using the designated payment link.

Fees

  • OCI Updation Fee: US$25
  • ICWF Fee: US$3
  • VFS Service Charge: US$19

2. Updation of Personal Particulars

OCI Cardholders who wish to update their personal particulars such as Nationality, Marital status, etc, or applicants who wish to update their passport details through CGI Seattle when their original OCI application was submitted outside CGI Seattle, should apply under OCI Miscellaneous Services on the OCI Portal and select “Updation of Personal Particulars.”

Such applications require submission through VFS Global.

How to Apply

Step 1 – Complete the OCI Application

  1. Visit the OCI Portal.
  2. Select OCI Miscellaneous Services.
  3. Choose Updation of Personal Particulars.
  4. Complete the online application for OCI card reissuance.
  5. After submission of the online application, print the completed application form bearing the Online Registration Number.

Step 2 – Submit Through VFS Global

  1. After completing the online application on the OCI Portal, proceed to the VFS Global website.
  2. Register or log in to the VFS portal and create a new OCI application submission.
  3. Submit the printed OCI application form along with all supporting documents as prescribed in the applicable checklist.
  4. If you wish to submit the application in person, you will need to book an appointment with VFS Global using the link provided here.
  5. If you wish to submit your documents by mail, please register here and follow the prescribed process, including payment of the applicable fees.
