Following is the Consular jurisdiction of the Consulate: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming. Applicants only from these states may apply at the Consulate General of India, Seattle. Please apply strictly as per your jurisdiction for which you have verifiable proof of address.

Apostille Convention: The Hague Convention, to which India and USA are signatories, abolishes the requirement of legalization for Foreign Public Documents. With the certification by the Hague Convention 'Apostille', the document is entitled to recognition in India and vice versa and no certification by the Consulate of India is required.The Convention applies to public documents which have been executed in the territory of one Contracting State and which have to be produced in the territory of another Contracting State.

The Consulate does not certify the genuineness of any document issued by authorities in India. If any document issued by authorities in India (such as birth and death certificates, affidavits, educational documents/diplomas, marriage certificate and Driving License, etc.) are required to be presented to authorities in the USA, these should be apostilled in India. It is not mandatory that the apostilled documents should be attested by the Consulate officials before presenting it to authorities in India.

GENERAL INFORMATION

A. Local documents like bank statement, salary statement, employment letter of the applicant, Driving License, etc. need to be Notarized and uploaded by the applicant and only signature of the applicant will be attested. On each document to be attested, applicant will mentionI TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONTENTS OF THE DOCUMENT”. After that applicant will put his full name and signature (as per passport) on each document submitted for attestation.

B. For attestation of Indian passport, Driving License, Pan Card, Adhar Card, Voter ID, Educational documents etc., applicant may submit Notarized copy of the same. Documents which are not apostilled from India will not be authenticated by Consulate. Such documents will only be attested as ‘True Copy Attestation Only”. On each document to be attested, applicant will state that “I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONTENTS OF THE DOCUMENT” and write full name and sign, as in the passport.

C. List of documents valid as a proof of Address/Residence (Copy of any one of following):

  • US Driving License OR
  • Utility Bill OR
  • Lease Agreement OR
  • State Identity Card OR
  • Mortgage Deed

D. Proof of US Visa Status (Copy of any one of the following):

  • Visa page of Passport (i.e. H1B, H4, L1, L2 etc.) OR
  • Green Card OR
  • Employment Authorization Document (Work Permit) OR
  • I-797, I-140 or I-20 (If approval is pending, attach a handwritten note detailing the efforts being taken to regularize status)

E. Payment of Fees :

The fee may be paid through Cashier’s Check/ Money Order/ Demand Draft drawn in favor of "Consulate General of the Republic of India in Seattle, WA" (Personal Checks, Credit Cards, Debit Cards Or Other Banking Instruments Are Not Accepted)

F. How to apply?

  • Applicants are requested to read the above mentioned General Instructions carefully before applying for Misc. Service.
  • Once you are ready to apply for Misc. Service, please click on below mentioned “Apply for Misc. Service” tab and the system will ask you to provide a few details such as Service, Mode of Submission, etc.
  • Once you submit your request system will give you detailed information about documents required, fees, and link to apply for Misc. Service Application form.
  • Applicants are requested to fill in the online Misc. Service Application form. At the end of this form, select the mode of payment for required fees (i.e. Through Cashier’s Check/ Money Order/ Demand Draft) and submit the application form.
  • You will get a pop-up message with Application ref. Number and instructions on how to submit your physical application to the Consulate.
  • Regardless of your mode of payment of fees the applicant is required to send a physical copy of the submitted application form, fees in form of Cashier’s Check/ Money Order/ Demand Draft (whichever is applicable), copies of documents or notarized copies of the documents.

G. PLEASE NOTE

  • CGI, Seattle has no agents for rendering these services and applicants should approach the Consulate directly.
  • The Consulate reserves the right to reject attestation of documents, the contents of which are objectionable or contrary to the Rules.
  • No Commercial Documents are attested by the Consulate. The same should be apostilled from the US Government Authorities for presenting in India.
