1. How does the passport application process work? Stage 1 – Submission

The applicant submits the required documents (either in person or by mail) to VFS Global.

Stage 2 – VFS Review

VFS Global reviews the documents. If the application is complete, VFS forwards the file to the Consulate.
Note: If any documents are missing, VFS Global will notify the applicant by email. The applicant must submit the requested documents within 21 business days. Failure to do so will result in rejection of the application.

Stage 3 – Consulate Processing

The Consulate verifies the application, grants approval, prepares the passport, and returns it to VFS Global.

Stage 4 – Closure

VFS Global closes the application and dispatches both the new passport and the old cancelled passport to the applicant.

2. If my passport has validity less then 6 months , Can I travel with this passport ?

No, for any international travel Passport Must by valid for minimum 6 months.

3. Can I walk-in to VFS Global for any questions, concerns or submission of my documents related to Passport Service?

Yes, you can.

4. I Lost/Damaged my passport, Can I apply under Tatkaal (Expidated Passport Service)?

No. Tatkaal (Expedited Passport Service) is not available for lost or damaged passport cases.

6. What is the processing time for a passport application?

Normal : 3 to 4 weeks (Excluding Shipping time)
Tatkaal : 4 to 5 Days (Excluding Shipping time)

7. How do I track my passport application?

You can track your application using the following link:

8. VFS has rejected my application due to missing documents or incorrect jurisdiction. How can I request a refund?

In case of a rejections, the refund will be processed automatically to the original mode of payment.

Refund processing may take 3 to 6 weeks.

 

9. I am in the USA on a visitor visa and have lost my passport. How can I obtain a new passport?

1) Immediately Report the passport loss to the local police and obtain a copy of the report.

2) Visit the Consulate - Based on your case, you may be issued a short term validity passport or EC (Emergency Certificate).

10. I live in the USA and have lost my passport and must travel to India urgently due to an emergency (such as serious illness or death in the family). What should I do?

1) Immediately report the passport loss to the local police and obtain a copy of the report.

2) Visit the Consulate - Based on your case, you may be issued an Emergency Certificate (EC) for travel to India.
