Registration of Birth

Note:

• At least One of the Parents must be an Indian citizen.

• The Registration of Birth must be done at the Indian Consulate within One Year of the child's birth.

Both parents should come to the consulate along with the supporting documents (refer to the checklist below).

• Once the birth registration is done, it is mandatory to apply for an Indian passport for the child.

Both the father and mother should fill, Print & Sign the form and bring it to the consulate along with the supporting documents

One Notarized copy Birth Registration Certificate of the child issued by the local authorities

Parents have to register the birth online at MHA’s Website (Click Here bullet)
A print out of the registration done online needs to be self-attested by both parents

Notarized Declaration of both parents that they have not taken any other nationality for the child.

Originals and Copy of :

· Passport of the Parents

· Proof of US Visa status of the Parents

· Marriage Certificate of the Parents

· Proof of USA Address

Fees: $25 and $2 (Please issue 2 Separate Cashier’s Checks/Money Orders)

1. How can one apply for Registration of Birth ?

2. Does one need to make an appointment for Registration of Birth ?

Applicants may walk into the Consulate on any working day as per below:
Timing for submitting the documents: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Timing for collection of the documents: Next day 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

3. What is the processing time for Registration of Birth ?

One day (Next Day), for the application submitted in Person/over the counter.

4. Documents  valid as a proof of address/residence?

5. What Documents are valid as a proof of US Visa Status?

•    Visa page of Passport (i.e. H1B, H4, L1, L2 etc.) OR
